A Wild Kitchen

Did you know that herbs are extremely good for butterflies and moths? They are very easily adaptable to a range of different sized gardens and will readily take to containers, if you are short of space.

Some of our favourite herbs to grow:

  • Rosemary – Rosmarinus officinalis
  • Caraway – Carum carvi
  • Hyssop – Hyssopus officinalis
  • English lavender – Lavandula angustifolia
  • Common sage – Salvia officinalis
  • Thyme – Thymus polytrichus
  • Fennel – Foeniculum vulgare
  • Chives – Allium schoenoprasum
  • Common mint – Mentha spicata
  • Wild marjoram – Origanum vulgare
  • Basil – Ocimum basilicum

Several common culinary herbs work well in a butterfly garden by providing both color and nectar. Butterflies love everything from dill and parsley to mint and lavender. Create an environment with shelter, sources of moisture, and a chemical-free hangout.
