Winter Birding in Somerset
Discover the magic of winter birdwatching at Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve, where the wetlands come alive with an incredible variety of birdlife.
Look out for spectacular flocks of starlings swirling across the skies, elegant Great Egrets stalking through the reeds, and Grey Herons standing patiently in the shallows.
Winter is also a wonderful time to spot ducks such as Eurasian Wigeon, Teal and the possibility of something rarer, alongside noisy flocks of Lapwings and Plovers. Keep your eyes peeled for Marsh Harriers gliding over the reedbeds and listen for the calls of wildfowl gathering on the lakes.
We will also be keeping an eye on anything usual appearing to truly immerse yourself in winter birding. Your experienced Guide will also be filled with information and enthusiasm about the area.
Other speciality birds we’ll keep our eyes peeled for during our trip include: Bittern, Bearded Tit, Water Rail, Great Egret, Glossy Ibis and more!
