Cetacean Station is launched!

As part of our See the Sea project, we have launched our new Cetacean Station! This is an exciting venture for us, which sees our Marine Team heading out to various watch-points around the UK looking for cetaceans and engaging the public with these wonderful marine creatures.

Our Marine Team consisting of Bethan and Dan, headed down to Bempton Cliffs RSPB to run out first Cetacean Station – we were positioned on the platform ready to spot any cetaceans in the sea. Whilst we were searching, we were showcasing our range of educational materials including our Common Dolphin skull and bird skulls in-between scanning the sea for any potential marine life. We also have some very interesting equipment with us! We were using some World War 2 marine binoculars which are a treat to use as they really don’t compare with our binoculars we use today.

We were lucky enough to see a minimum of three Harbour Porpoise below us on the cliffs which was exciting to the visitors that were with us on the platform. It was an absolute delight to see tiny fins emerging from the surface water, occasionally one would pop up among the Kittiwakes. Our first Cetacean Station was a success – and we are so excited for more!
