Raptors of the Somerset Plains
Mesmerised by birds of prey? Want to see more of these incredible raptors? Then this may be the one for you!
Join us for a real ‘Raptor Quest’, as we go in search the Somerset Plains for some of its most accomplished hunters.
The Somerset Plains during May is a paradise for raptor species. The flourishing reed bed and fen habitat is a fabulous, healthy ecosystem full of prey species for our raptor specialists.
From the little to the large, we’ll be on the look out for Hobby darting over the marshes, Marsh Harrier hawking through the reeds and Peregrine soaring above the fens.
We’ll also keep eyes peeled for more common species, the likes of Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and Red kite. With a chance of scarcer passage birds such as Osprey and even rarer treats like Red-footed falcon.
Other speciality birds we’ll keep our eyes peeled for during our trip include: Bittern, Bearded Tit, Water Rail, Great Egret, Glossy Ibis and more!
