Somerset is home to 4 of the 5 British Hairstreaks and mid-summer is a fantastic time to
catch 3 of these beautiful creatures on the wing.
The three species we will be focussing on, on the wing during this period, are White-letter
hairstreak, Purple Hairstreak and Brown hairstreak.

Walk will take place from 15.00-17.00 PM and will involve a undulating (semi-steep
sections), circular walk through woodland and grassland hills. (not wheelchair accessible).

Other butterflies we might encounter include Silver-washed fritillary, Clouded yellow, Brown
argus, Painted lady, Peacock, Brimstone.
Wildlife highlights other than butterflies:

  • Day flying moths such as Hummingbird hawkmoth, Jersey Tiger, Scarlet Tiger.
  • Birds such as Marsh tit, Firecrest, Bullfinch, Red kite, Raven, Peregrine


  • Walk runs from 15:00 – 17:00pm.
  • At the start of your walk, you’ll meet Nick in the car park.
  • Best to bring Walking clothing, poles if needed, hat and suncream. Pack ample drink and snacks as required.
  • Bring binoculars, camera, field guides, although our expert Guide is on-hand to assist with any questions.
