Delicious home-grown bloody mary

To create this tangy cocktail, you’ll need 500g of fresh tomatoes or 5 large home-grown tomatoes. We’d recommend a few fresh leaves of basil make this cocktail perfect.

Ingredients List

5 large Home-Grown Tomatoes
5 fresh Basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon of salt
100ml Vodka
3-4 ice cubes
80ml Lime Juice
60ml Pickle Juice
A few dashes of Worcestershire Sauce and Tabasco
1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/2 teaspoon Celery Salt
Pinch of Pepper
Pinch of Paprika

Optional
A dash of hot sauce or a few slices of chili peppers
Celery Stalks for garnish

Growing Tips & Tricks

When harvesting tomatoes, simply pull them. If they don’t give way easily, they might not be ripe.

When harvesting basil leaves, cut the stem above a pair of leaves as this encourages growth.

  1. Chop the tomatoes and put them in a bowl with 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Leave them for 30 minutes to draw out the moisture.
  2. After 30 minutes, pop into a blender with the fresh basil leaves and blend until smooth.
  3. Press the mixture through a fine sieve into a jug or a bowl.
  4. Add the lime juice, pickle juice, Worcestershire Sauce, Tabasco, Garlic Powder and Celery Salt. Add Paprika and Pepper to taste.
  5. Add vodka and ice cubes to a tall glass, then add the mixture ontop.

And you’re done! Pair this savory cocktail with a classy evening for a night to remember.

Feeling Fancy?

Garnish your glasses with a little lemon juice around the rim and then roll the glass in a little salt and pepper. This adds extra flavour to every sip. Adding fresh celery stalks to this Bloody Mary will wow your guests as celery stalks make for a wonderful garnish.
